<h2>Korea: The Most Connected Country in the World</h2>
<p>South Korea is officially the most connected country in the world. Free WiFi is everywhere — in the subway, buses, parks, cafés. 5G covers nearly the entire territory. After 12 years here, I've become so used to this connectivity that going back to France feels like returning to the digital Middle Ages!</p>
<p>To navigate this technological ecosystem, you need the right vocabulary. And trust me, this is vocabulary you'll use EVERY SINGLE DAY.</p>
<h2>The Phone — 핸드폰 / 휴대폰</h2>
<table>
<tr><th>Korean</th><th>Romanization</th><th>English</th></tr>
<tr><td>핸드폰</td><td>haen-deu-pon</td><td>Cell phone (common term)</td></tr>
<tr><td>휴대폰</td><td>hyu-dae-pon</td><td>Cell phone (formal term)</td></tr>
<tr><td>스마트폰</td><td>seu-ma-teu-pon</td><td>Smartphone</td></tr>
<tr><td>전화</td><td>jeon-hwa</td><td>Phone / phone call</td></tr>
<tr><td>전화번호</td><td>jeon-hwa-beon-ho</td><td>Phone number</td></tr>

<p><strong>Cultural note:</strong> Koreans say <strong>핸드폰</strong> more often than 휴대폰 in everyday conversation. It's borrowed directly from "handphone" (which doesn't even exist in standard English!). A perfect example of [Konglish](/en/blog/konglish-english-korean-words).</p>
